Telescopic Levelling Staff 5m — Kraft&Dele KD1097
An aluminium telescopic staff designed for ground levelling and precise surveying. Its five-section construction allows the length to be adjusted from 1.22 m to 5.00 m, so it can be transported in a compact form and used where there are large differences in height. The two-sided scale — E-pattern levelling on one side and millimetre graduations on the other — allows readings to be taken for both surveying and construction work.

Two-sided graduations
One side of the staff carries the E-pattern levelling scale used in surveying — the figures can be read at a distance through the telescope of optical and laser levels. The other side has millimetre graduations, useful for construction measurements and checking levels. One tool therefore covers two different measuring scenarios without any need to change equipment.
Telescopic construction with locking buttons
The five aluminium sections extend telescopically and lock in place with aluminium-reinforced buttons. The locking mechanism keeps the set length stable during measurement and prevents the sections from sliding back accidentally under load. When closed, the staff measures 1.22 m, which makes it easy to transport and store.
Protective steel base
The bottom edge of the staff ends in a steel base that protects the aluminium from wear on contact with hard ground — concrete, block paving or rock. This has a direct bearing on measuring accuracy: a worn or deformed base shifts the zero point of the scale, which introduces a systematic error into readings.
Spirit level and carry case included
The supplied spirit level (bubble level) lets you hold the staff vertically during measurement — tilting away from vertical is one of the main sources of levelling error. The carry case protects the staff during transport and storage, preventing damage to the scale and deformation of the sections.

Compatibility with levels
An E-pattern staff works with standard optical and laser levels that read the scale from a distance. Before use, make sure your level supports E-pattern readings (a so-called bar-coded staff or E-metre levelling staff). Laser levels require a staff with a suitable scale or a laser detector — in that case the E-pattern scale is used only for manual reading.
Use and maintenance
Before every measurement, check that all sections are fully extended and locked by the buttons — a partly locked section can cause reading errors. Set the spirit level so that the bubble sits in the centre of the circle, which ensures the staff is held vertically.
After use, clean mud and dust off the graduations to keep the markings legible. The sections should be stored closed in the supplied carry case. Aluminium is resistant to corrosion, but mechanical damage to the scale (scratches, flaking paint) can make it harder to read through an optical level — in that case, replacing the staff is recommended.
