Right Cut Tin Snips 260 mm YATO YT-1919

Hand-operated snips with a right-cut profile for cutting steel and stainless steel sheet. The YT-1919 is fitted with chrome-molybdenum steel blades hardened to 60-62 HRC and is designed for precise cutting along the right-hand edge of the material.

Features of the YATO tin snips

Right-cut profile – cutting along the right-hand edge

The blade design lets you guide the tool with the right-hand edge of the material in view. During cutting, the upper blade deflects the material to the left, which gives precise control of the cut line in work where the right-hand part of the sheet has to be preserved.

Induction-hardened CrMo steel

The blades are made from chrome-molybdenum steel that has been induction hardened to a hardness of 60-62 HRC. This process gives the cutting edges high resistance to wear and keeps them sharp during prolonged work with materials of differing hardness.

260 mm length – optimum leverage

The 260 mm handles strike a balance between cutting force and control. This length allows efficient cutting of sheet up to 1.5 mm thick without excessive strain on the hand, while keeping the tool manoeuvrable in confined spaces.

Material thickness range

The snips are intended for cutting steel sheet up to 1.5 mm and stainless steel up to 0.9 mm. The difference results from the higher strength of stainless steel – exceeding the recommended thicknesses leads to excessive blade wear and deformation of the cut edge.

Applications of the tin snips

  • Cutting steel sheet in sheet metal and metalworking workshops
  • Cutting out holes and shapes in car body panels
  • Roofing work – cutting roofing sheet and flashings
  • Ventilation and air conditioning installations – fabricating ductwork
  • Cutting flat bar and thin steel sections
  • Preparing structural components from sheet metal
  • On-site assembly work in construction – cutting anchors and brackets
  • Working stainless steel in food-related applications

The difference between right-cut, left-cut and straight profiles

Right-cut snips deflect the material to the left – used where the right-hand edge of the cut is to remain visible and clean. Left-cut snips work the opposite way. Straight snips do not deflect the material sideways, but leave crushed edges on both sides – used for internal cuts or where the appearance of the edge does not matter.

Use and maintenance

Before starting work, check the play in the pivot – excessive play reduces cutting precision and speeds up blade wear. Adjust it by tightening the central screw while keeping the movement of the handles smooth.

When cutting, guide the snips at right angles to the surface of the sheet, using the full length of the blades. Short, snatching cuts produce burrs and uneven edges. With materials close to the maximum thickness, cut at least 3-4 mm in from the edge of the sheet.

After use, clean metal swarf off the blades and protect them with a thin film of machine oil. Storing the tool in a damp environment without protection causes the cutting edges to corrode, which reduces cut quality.

When to sharpen or replace the blades

A sign that sharpening is needed is having to apply more pressure, or crushed edges appearing instead of a clean cut. Professional sharpening restores the tool's working parameters – sharpening by hand without suitable equipment often damages the blade angle and makes the quality of the cut worse.
