A drill bit made from HSS high-speed steel in a long series design to DIN1869. Suitable for drilling metals, including structural steel, cast iron and non-ferrous metals. The 265 mm overall length makes it possible to drill in confined spaces and to produce deep holes.
HSS (high-speed steel) has a hardness of 62–65 HRC, which provides resistance to abrasion when drilling metals. It retains its cutting properties at temperatures of up to 600°C, which allows work at higher rotational speeds without loss of the cutting edge.
DIN1869 specifies drill bits with an extended working section. On this model the flute length is 185 mm, with an overall length of 265 mm. This design makes it possible to drill through thicker materials and in places where standard drill bits are too short.
The 130° angle is used on drill bits intended for harder metals than standard. It provides better centring on the workpiece surface and reduces the tendency to slip when starting to drill. This geometry also increases edge life when working with structural steel.
The gold colour of the surface indicates heat treatment or the presence of a coating that reduces the coefficient of friction. This coating reduces heating of the drill bit during use and extends the interval between sharpenings, particularly when drilling harder materials.

For structural steel the recommended speed is 250–400 rpm at a diameter of 10 mm. For aluminium the speed can be increased to 800–1000 rpm. Using a coolant (emulsion or cutting oil) extends the life of the drill bit and improves hole quality.
Regular inspection of the cutting edge makes it possible to detect wear before the bit loses its cutting properties. A blunt drill bit requires a greater feed force, generates more heat and produces an irregular hole shape. HSS drill bits can be sharpened with a drill bit sharpener, maintaining the original 130° point angle.
The drill bit fits drill chucks with a 1–13 mm capacity. It can be used in bench drills, hand drills and lathe drill chucks. Because of its length (265 mm) it requires secure clamping and avoids excessive overhang from the chuck.
