A universal voltage tester with contact and inductive measurement, enabling verification of AC voltage, testing of cable continuity and checking of battery condition. The YT-2864 combines the functions of a voltage tester and a continuity tester in a compact 140 mm housing.
Contact measurement of 70-250V checks the voltage at socket outlets and terminals, while the 70-600V inductive mode detects voltage in cables without direct contact. The inductive method is useful for locating live cables in walls.
The cable continuity function detects breaks in the electrical installation. The range up to 50 MΩ makes it possible to test both short cables and longer cable runs in domestic and industrial installations.
The built-in battery tester checks cell voltage from 1.5V (AA, AAA) up to 9V (PP3 batteries). A useful function for quickly checking that batteries are serviceable before use in other devices, it removes any uncertainty about their charge.
The LED clearly indicates the presence of voltage, giving a readable indication even in poorly lit rooms. The 140 mm length and 3.5 mm probe tip allow work in the tight spaces typical of back boxes.

Contact measurement (70-250V) requires the probe tip to be physically touched to the test point and is used for precise checking of voltage at socket outlets, terminals or cable ends. Inductive measurement (70-600V) works at a distance, detecting the electromagnetic field around a live cable. The inductive method makes it possible to locate cables in walls without disturbing the insulation, but it does not replace contact measurement when verifying the exact voltage value.
Before using the tester, check the condition of the insulation on the housing and probe tip. Continuity testing may only be carried out on circuits that are not live. For contact measurement, insert the probe tip into the socket or place it against the test point, avoiding simultaneous contact with metal parts. Inductive measurement is carried out by bringing the tester to within a few centimetres of the cable.
The 70-250V AC range covers standard mains voltages in domestic installations (230V) as well as lower voltages in lighting circuits. The inductive mode up to 600V extends detection to industrial and three-phase installations. LR41 batteries power the continuity testing and LED indication functions, and they can be replaced without tools.
The LED illuminating during contact measurement confirms the presence of voltage in the 70-250V range. In inductive measurement, the LED illuminating indicates an electromagnetic field around the cable. In the continuity test, the LED indicates conduction (no break in the circuit). If the LED does not illuminate during contact measurement, there is no voltage, or the voltage is outside the tester's measurement range.
