A hexagonal socket in chrome steel with a 1/2 inch drive, designed for tightening and loosening 17 mm bolts and nuts. The chrome-plated surface provides corrosion protection and long service life in workshop conditions.
The 1/2" marking refers to the size of the square drive (12.7 mm). The socket works with ratchets, torque wrenches and extension bars of the same standard. The 1/2" drive is the most common size in workshop and automotive applications.
The six-sided working profile ensures even distribution of force across six points of contact with the nut or bolt. This design minimises the risk of rounding the fastener edges under standard working loads.
Manufactured from chrome-plated carbon steel, it combines suitable material hardness with corrosion protection. The chrome layer increases resistance to moisture and workshop chemicals while making it easier to remove oil contamination.
A 17 mm socket is part of the basic set of metric sizes. This size corresponds to standard M10 nuts, commonly used in steel structures, automotive and industrial installations.

The socket works with all tools fitted with a 1/2" square drive: hand ratchets, torque wrenches, pneumatic impact wrenches (provided they are of suitable reinforced construction), extension bars, universal joints and adapters. Before use with impact tools, check that the socket has a suitable reinforced construction.
Before starting work, check the condition of the socket's internal profile and drive. Worn working edges or a deformed drive can lead to damage of the fasteners. The socket should be fitted fully onto the nut or bolt, avoiding working at an angle.
After finishing work, it is advisable to remove oil contamination and metal dust with a brush or cloth. Sockets stored in high-humidity conditions may require periodic protection with a thin layer of protective oil, despite the chrome-plated surface.
Sockets should not be used as hammers, nor should their leverage be extended with pipes, as this can lead to cracking of the material or deformation of the working profile. For seized connections, the use of penetrating oil and suitable impact tools is recommended.
