Spiral wood auger bit with a 13 mm diameter and a 400 mm working length. Designed for drilling deep holes in softwood and hardwood, wood-based materials and plywood.
The 13 mm diameter matches the standard fixing diameters of many joinery connectors, wooden dowels and structural screws. It allows holes to be drilled for the typical fasteners used in timber construction and furniture making.
The 400 mm length allows drilling through thick structural components and beams, and for through-fixing of components. It is particularly useful when installing roof trusses, building gazebos and for any work requiring drilling through thick materials.
The auger's spiral flutes carry chips out of the hole during drilling, preventing the cutting edge from clogging. The spiral design reduces drilling resistance and allows deep holes to be drilled more quickly, without the need to withdraw the tool frequently.
The steel construction provides resistance to deformation when drilling at an angle and in hardwoods. The material retains the sharpness of its cutting edges for longer in service compared with standard drill bits.

The auger bit is compatible with impact and non-impact drills, cordless drill drivers of adequate power and pillar drills. Speeds of 800-1200 rpm are recommended for softwood and 400-800 rpm for hardwood. With long auger bits, secure clamping of the workpiece and controlled feed of the tool are essential.
After use, remove chips from the spiral flutes with a brush or compressed air. The cutting edges can be sharpened periodically with a diamond file, maintaining the original sharpening angle. Storing in a dry place prevents corrosion of the working surface.
When drilling deep holes, safety goggles must be worn because of the chips being ejected. The material should be clamped securely in a vice or with clamps. When drilling through, it is advisable to place a piece of scrap board on the exit side of the cutting edge, which prevents the wood from splintering.
