A precision measuring tool for determining the external dimensions of mechanical components in the 50-75 mm range. The digital micrometer is fitted with an electronic LCD display, a unit conversion function and a data output for recording systems.
An accuracy of ±0.002 mm with a resolution of 0.001 mm means the micrometer detects differences in dimension down to one thousandth of a millimetre. This parameter determines whether the tool is suitable for measuring parts held to IT6-IT8 tolerances, which are typical of precision fits in mechanical engineering.
After heat treatment, GCr15 steel has a hardness of 60-64 HRC, which gives the measuring faces their wear resistance. The material minimises the risk of plastic deformation during repeated use and maintains dimensional stability over time.
Switching between mm and inches makes it possible to work with technical documentation in different standards without having to convert the values. This function is particularly useful when checking parts manufactured to ANSI or ISO standards.
The ability to transmit results to a computer or SPC (Statistical Process Control) system allows measurements to be documented automatically and production processes to be analysed statistically. This removes transcription errors and speeds up the preparation of inspection records.

Outside micrometers are produced in 25 mm increments (0-25, 25-50, 50-75, 75-100 mm and so on). The 50-75 mm model is intended for measuring medium-sized components - larger than standard shafts and smaller than large bushes. When choosing a micrometer, make sure the dimension being measured falls within the instrument's range with a safety margin.
Before measuring, zero the micrometer with the measuring faces closed together. The component being measured should be clean and dry. The spindle pressure is adjusted until a slight resistance is felt - too much pressure can deform the component or affect the accuracy of the reading. The measurement is taken perpendicular to the axis of the component being measured.
Store the micrometer in its protective case at a temperature between -20°C and +60°C. After use, wipe the measuring faces with a soft cloth and protect them with a thin film of protective oil. The instrument should not be exposed to direct contact with swarf, abrasive dust or corrosive substances.
In line with the requirements of quality systems, micrometers used for production inspection should be calibrated every 6-12 months by an accredited laboratory. The accuracy of the readings can be verified using length standards (gauge blocks, setting rings).
The micrometer is powered by an SR44 battery (1.55 V). The auto power-off function extends battery life to around 2,000 hours of operation. Fading contrast on the LCD display indicates that the battery needs replacing. Keeping a spare battery in the workshop is recommended.
