Professional soldering tip cleaner with brass wool in a metal tin. Mechanical dry cleaning eliminates the risk of thermal shock and extends tip life.
Brass combines the hardness needed to remove contaminants with a soft structure that does not scratch the tip surface. The wool mechanically scrapes away oxidised solder, flux residues and other deposits without damaging the tip's protective layer, which extends its service life compared with aggressive cleaning methods.
Dry cleaning eliminates the thermal shock caused by contact between a heated tip and a damp sponge. Sudden temperature changes lead to micro-cracks in the tip's protective coating and shorten its service life. Dry cleaning in brass wool maintains a stable working temperature.
The metal tin provides stability during cleaning and protects the wool from contamination. A 45 mm opening in the lid allows the tip to be inserted easily without unscrewing the lid, which speeds up work and reduces the risk of spilling the wool.
Brass wool retains its cleaning properties for hundreds of use cycles. Unlike cellulose sponges, which wear out quickly and need replacing, the wool simply needs to be cleaned periodically of accumulated contaminants by shaking or blowing through with compressed air.

Gently work the heated soldering iron tip into the brass wool with a twisting motion. A few seconds of contact is enough to remove contaminants. Immediately after cleaning, apply fresh solder to the tip to protect it against oxidation. Avoid pressing the tip too firmly into the wool, as this can damage its shape.
Contaminants that collect in the wool should be removed periodically. Simply shake the contents of the tin over a waste bin or blow the wool through with compressed air. With intensive use, cleaning every 2–3 weeks is recommended. The wool does not need to be replaced for the entire service life of the cleaner.
