Features of the YATO flap disc
P40 grit – aggressive grinding
P40 grit denotes a coarse-grade disc designed for initial stock removal and fast material removal. It is used for removing rust, paint and varnish and for levelling surface irregularities before moving on to finer grits.
125 mm diameter – the standard for angle grinders
125 mm is the most popular disc diameter for angle grinders rated at 800–1200 W. It provides a sufficient working surface while retaining full control of the tool. It must be mounted directly on the spindle without an additional backing pad.
Epoxy resin backing
The backing plate, made from epoxy resins, is resistant to vibration and mechanical loads during operation. This material keeps the abrasive flaps stable and prevents premature damage to the disc structure.
Abrasive cloth flaps
The flap construction, made up of overlapping cloth segments, allows the grit to wear down gradually and expose fresh abrasive layers. This arrangement extends the disc's service life and ensures even grinding throughout its working life.

Tool compatibility
The disc is mounted directly on the spindle of an angle grinder with an M14 thread. Before purchasing, check the spindle diameter of your grinder – it is typically 22.2 mm for 125 mm discs. It does not require an additional backing pad, which sets it apart from conical flap discs.
Use and maintenance
When working with a P40 flap disc, keep the grinder at an angle of 15–30 degrees to the workpiece surface. Excessive pressure shortens the disc's service life and can overheat the material. The grinder's speed should be matched to the material being worked – lower for plastics, higher for metals.
After use, remove dust from the disc surface with compressed air. Storing it in a dry place prevents the cloth flaps from absorbing moisture, which could reduce their abrasive properties. Check the condition of the disc regularly – cracks or excessive wear are a sign that it needs to be replaced.
Safety during grinding
Personal protective equipment is mandatory: safety goggles, an FFP2 dust mask, work gloves and ear defenders. The work area should be well ventilated because of the dust produced. Before starting work, check that the grinder guard is correctly fitted.
