100 mm lens

What the magnification means in practice
3x is a versatile magnification, commonly used in magnifiers for everyday tasks. At this level the working distance (the distance between the lens and the object being viewed) is approximately 10–12 cm, which allows comfortable use without having to lean over excessively. Higher magnifications require a shorter working distance and can cause greater peripheral distortion of the image.
Use and maintenance
Before first use, remove any protective film from the lens. During use, hold the magnifier at the distance that produces a sharp image – usually 8–12 cm from the object. The best viewing conditions are provided by good, even lighting of the object, ideally daylight or a lamp with a colour temperature of 4,000–5,000 K.
Clean the lens with a soft, lint-free microfibre cloth. For heavier soiling, a specialist optical cleaning fluid may be used – do not use products containing organic solvents or alcohol, or any abrasive substances. The rubber-grip handle can be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth. After use, store the magnifier in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight and contact with sharp objects.
When 3x magnification may not be enough
For work with very small components (smaller than 1 mm), such as microelectronics, precision engraving or gemstone assessment, a magnifier with higher magnification (5x–10x) or a stereo microscope may be required. Anyone with a significant visual impairment should discuss the choice of magnification with an ophthalmologist or optometrist.
