Hexagonal Crowbar 600 x 20 mm YATO YT-46832

A hexagonal crowbar is a lever tool used for demolition and assembly work and for prising up structural components. Model YT-46832 features a hexagonal profile with a 20 mm cross-section and a 600 mm working length.

Technical Features of the Hexagonal Crowbar

20 mm Hexagonal Profile

The hexagonal cross-section provides greater torque than a round profile. It allows a socket spanner to be used to increase leverage. The flat surfaces prevent the tool from twisting in the hand during use.

45# Carbon Steel

45# steel (equivalent to C45) contains approximately 0.45% carbon, which provides a balance between hardness and resistance to cracking. This material withstands the impact loads typical of demolition work without permanent deformation.

600 mm Working Length

The 600 mm length is a compromise between leverage and manoeuvrability. It provides sufficient torque for prising up heavy components while keeping the tool under control in a confined working space.

Assembly and Demolition Applications

The crowbar's design allows timber components to be dismantled, panels prised up and nails removed, as well as light structures to be demolished. It can be used as an auxiliary tool for jobs requiring leverage.

Applications of the Hexagonal Crowbar

  • Demolition of timber structures and dismantling of formwork
  • Prising up finishing trim and floorboards
  • Removing nails and fixings from timber
  • Dismantling pallets and shipping crates
  • Demolition work during building renovation
  • Securing and adjusting loads during transport
  • Prising off covers and panels in mechanical workshops
  • Auxiliary assembly work requiring leverage

Difference Between a Hexagonal and a Round Crowbar

A crowbar with a hexagonal cross-section allows a socket spanner to be used, which increases the force that can be applied. The hexagonal profile also prevents the tool from rotating when prising at an angle. Round crowbars are lighter, but rely on hand force alone, with no option of using additional tools to increase torque.

Use and Safety

Before starting work, check the crowbar for cracks, bends and signs of corrosion. The tool should be used only for its intended purpose – not as a hammer, chisel or spanner. When prising up heavy components, increase the force gradually and keep control of the direction in which the component moves.

Work gloves to protect against abrasions and safety goggles to protect against flying fragments are mandatory. For demolition work, the work area must be secured against falling removed components. The crowbar should not be exposed to overheating, which can lead to a loss of the steel's mechanical properties.

After use, clean the tool of dirt and protect it against moisture. Storing it in a dry place prevents surface corrosion, which can weaken the structure at points subject to the highest loads.
