A hand die for M22 metric threads, made from HSS M2 high-speed steel. The tool is designed for cutting external threads in structural steels, aluminium and other metals of varying hardness.
A tool steel alloy with 5% molybdenum and 6% tungsten, achieving a hardness of 63–65 HRC after heat treatment. It offers wear resistance and the ability to machine materials with a hardness of up to 900 N/mm². It retains its cutting properties at temperatures of up to 600°C.
Nominal diameter 22 mm, thread pitch 2.5 mm (ISO coarse thread). Requires a prepared hole with a core diameter of 19.5 mm. Used in medium-load bolted joints, typical of steel structures and industrial machinery.
A three-piece die set consisting of a taper (starting) die, an intermediate die and a finishing die. It allows the thread to be cut progressively, with control over cutting force and dimensional accuracy. The die stock is not included in the set.
A tool for repairing damaged threads, restoring bolted joints and preparing components in one-off production. A cutting fluid (machine oil, emulsion) is required for steel.

Before cutting an M22 thread, a hole of 19.5 mm must be drilled. The accuracy of the hole diameter directly affects thread quality – too small a hole will overload the die, while too large a hole results in an incomplete thread. The hole should be perpendicular to the surface and free of burrs.
The thread is cut progressively with three dies, in the order: taper, intermediate, finishing. After every 1–2 turns clockwise, turn half a turn anticlockwise to break the swarf. The feed pressure should be even, without jerking. For steel, use a cutting fluid – machine oil or emulsion.
HSS dies should be stored in a dry place, protected against damage to the cutting edges. After use, clean the tool of swarf and cutting fluid residue, then protect it with a thin film of anti-corrosion oil. Avoid contact with other tools that could damage the cutting edges.
