A workshop tool designed for fitting piston rings into the cylinder liners of internal combustion engines. The compressor allows a piston with its rings fitted to be safely inserted into the cylinder, reducing the risk of damage to components during engine reconditioning.
Versatile enough for use in passenger cars, vans and some HGVs. The range covers the typical cylinder diameters of small petrol engines through to larger diesel engines. Before buying, measure the cylinder diameter of the engine the tool will be used with.
A parameter defining the length of the ring compression zone. The 100 mm height provides stable guidance for the piston as it is inserted into the cylinder, together with sufficient contact area with the piston rings. It allows work with most standard pistons used in internal combustion engines.
A design based on a steel band with circumference adjustment that adapts to the cylinder diameter. The mechanism, tightened by a screw or lever, compresses the piston rings evenly, reducing their outside diameter to match the cylinder. This allows the piston to slide in smoothly without the rings springing open.
Tool steel with a surface treatment providing resistance to wear and corrosion. The strength of the material matters when the tool is used repeatedly in workshop conditions, where it is subjected to mechanical stress when compressing rings of different diameters.

| Manufacturer | YATO |
| Diameter range | 90-175 mm |
| Tool height | 100 mm |
| Type | Piston ring compressor |
| Application | Fitting pistons into cylinder liners |
Before fitting, slide the piston rings onto the piston in accordance with the manufacturer's markings (top compression ring, second compression ring and oil scraper ring). The compressor is placed over the piston from the crown side, then the adjustment mechanism is tightened until the rings are compressed to the cylinder diameter. The piston with the tool in place is inserted into the cylinder liner, after which the compressor is removed.
After each use, clean the compression band of engine oil and dirt. The adjustment mechanism requires periodic greasing with a maintenance grease. Storing in a dry place prevents corrosion of the steel components. Regularly checking the condition of the band for cracks or deformation extends the service life of the tool.
