Universal TCT Hole Saw 64mm 5/8'' YT-43978 YATO

A TCT hole saw with tungsten carbide teeth, designed for drilling holes in wood, metals and mineral materials. A universal model for installation and construction work.

Hole saw diameter64 mm
Mounting thread5/8''
Tooth materialTCT (tungsten carbide)
ModelYT-43978

Features of the TCT hole saw

TCT (Tungsten Carbide Tipped) technology

Tungsten carbide teeth provide abrasion resistance and allow the tool to work in hard materials. TCT is a combination of tungsten and carbon that withstands temperatures of up to 800°C and stays sharp far longer than HSS steel.

Material versatility

The hole saw copes with wood, metals and mineral materials such as Porotherm hollow blocks, aerated concrete blocks and calcium silicate bricks. It removes the need for separate tools for different building materials.

Performance in mineral materials

In aerated concrete and similar lightweight materials, the TCT hole saw works faster than diamond drills, at a lower tool cost. Particularly effective in aerated concrete blocks with a density of 400-600 kg/m³.

Standard 5/8'' thread

The 5/8'' thread (approximately 15.875 mm) is the standard for professional hole saws. It ensures compatibility with most arbors and pilot drills available on the market, including dedicated YATO products.

Applications of the 64 mm hole saw

  • Ventilation systems - fitting wall supply and extract vents
  • Air conditioning systems - routing refrigerant pipework through walls
  • Electrical installations - fitting back boxes in thick walls
  • Plumbing installations - routing pipes through masonry walls
  • Alarm and low-voltage systems - fitting sensors and detectors
  • Construction - drilling in ceramic and concrete hollow blocks
  • Finishing work - fitting downlights
  • Renovations - cutting mounting holes in existing walls

Choosing a pilot drill

The hole saw requires a pilot drill with a 5/8'' thread. The carbide-tipped version (YT-43990) is designed for mineral materials - carbide does not crack when drilling into aerated concrete. The HSS versions (YT-43991, YT-43992) are suited to wood and metals, where the stresses typical of brittle materials do not occur.

Use and maintenance

When working with a TCT hole saw, match the rotational speed to the material. Use 500-800 rpm in wood, 200-400 rpm in metals and 400-600 rpm in mineral materials. Excessive speed causes the carbide to overheat and shortens tool life.

In metals, cooling with emulsion or cutting oil is recommended. In mineral materials, withdrawing the hole saw periodically helps remove dust and prevents the teeth from clogging. Using a drill with torque control protects against tool damage when reinforcement or hard inclusions are encountered.

Work safety

Wear safety goggles and an FFP2 dust mask when drilling, particularly when working in mineral materials. Dust from aerated concrete and bricks contains silica, which is harmful to the respiratory system. Secure the material against movement and wear protective gloves.
