VOREL PS-3 Welding Shield with Inspection Window 74448

A hand-held welding shield fitted with an additional inspection window that lets you monitor the welding process without removing the shield. The design protects the eyes, face and neck against UV and IR radiation, visible light and flying metal spatter.

Main filter50×100 mm / DIN 10
Inspection window20×100 mm / DIN 5
Additional protectionLeather bib
ModelPS-3 (74448)

Technical features of the welding shield

Dual welding filter system

The 50×100 mm main filter with a DIN 10 shade number protects against harmful radiation during welding. The additional 20×100 mm inspection window with a DIN 5 filter lets you watch the process and check weld quality without having to move the shield away from your face.

DIN 10 shade number

The DIN 10 value of the main filter suits MMA (covered electrode) welding at 80-300 A and MIG/MAG welding up to 250 A. This shade filters out 99.99% of UV and IR radiation, protecting the retina from thermal and photochemical damage.

Leather protective bib

The shield comes with a genuine leather bib that protects the neck and upper chest from metal spatter, sparks and secondary radiation reflected off the workpiece. Leather offers both heat and mechanical resistance.

Hand-held design with grip

The shield is held by hand using an ergonomic grip. This gives full mobility and lets you move the shield away quickly. Suitable for short welding jobs and spot welding.

Applications of the welding shield

  • MMA (covered electrode) welding at 80-300 A
  • MIG/MAG welding up to 250 A
  • Spot welding that requires frequent inspection of the weld
  • Repair and maintenance work on site
  • Welding steel structures in the workshop
  • Work requiring mobility and quick changes of position
  • Short welding jobs where the shield does not need to be fixed on the head
  • Checking weld quality during the welding process

What the DIN shade numbers mean

A DIN 10 shade transmits 0.00316% of light, which corresponds to electrode welding at 80-300 A. The DIN 5 shade in the inspection window (6.4% transmission) lets you watch the work area with the arc struck while still protecting against excessive glare. Using filters with the wrong shade number can damage the retina.

Use and maintenance

Before starting work, check the condition of the welding filters — cracks, scratches or discolouration mean the filter must no longer be used. The cover lenses should be clean, with no smoke film or metal spatter that could reduce visibility and the effectiveness of the protection.

The leather bib needs regular checks for burn-through and mechanical damage. Genuine leather should not be exposed to prolonged moisture, which can cause it to lose its flexibility and protective properties.

Store the shield in a dry place, away from heat sources and direct sunlight. The welding filters should be protected from impact — store them in a dedicated case or on a workshop hook.

Limitations of hand-held shields

Hand-held shields must be held with one hand at all times, which limits how well you can handle the workpiece. For longer jobs, head-mounted shields with an auto-darkening system are recommended. Hand-held shields work well for spot welding, quick repairs and situations that require frequent changes of working position.
