A short impact socket made from chrome molybdenum steel, designed for use with pneumatic, electric and cordless impact wrenches. Built for intensive use in workshops and industrial service environments.
A material with increased resistance to impact and dynamic loads. Greater flexibility than CR-V steel allows it to absorb shock and minimises the risk of cracking when used with impact tools.
A 12.7 mm drive square – the standard for mid-power impact wrenches. Compatible with most professional pneumatic and cordless tools used in workshops.
A size that matches M12 bolts and nuts. The 6-point design distributes force evenly across all edges, which reduces the risk of damaging fasteners during tightening.
Allows a retaining pin to lock the socket onto the tool shank. Prevents the tool from falling off when working in hard-to-reach places or at high speeds.

The choice of material has a direct effect on socket durability when working with impact tools. CR-MO steel differs from the popular CR-V steel in its mechanical properties:
| Property | CR-MO (chrome molybdenum) | CR-V (chrome vanadium) |
|---|---|---|
| Impact resistance | Very high – designed for dynamic loads | Limited – intended for hand use |
| Flexibility | Higher – absorbs impact energy without cracking | Lower – may develop micro-cracks |
| Hardness under load | Retains its properties under extreme force | Suitable for hand tools |
| Application | Impact wrenches, industrial, service | Hand socket wrenches, DIY work |
Chrome molybdenum steel is essential when working with impact wrenches. Standard CR-V steel, used in hand sockets, does not withstand repeated impact loads and may crack or deform after a short period of use.
Impact sockets require a different approach to hand tools. A few rules to extend their service life:
Before starting work, make sure the socket size matches the fastener. An 18 mm socket is intended for M12 bolts and nuts. Using the wrong size damages the edges and causes the tool to slip.
When working with an impact wrench, especially in a vertical or overhead position, use a retaining pin. The hole in the socket allows one to be fitted, which prevents the tool from coming loose on its own.
After working in dusty, sandy or damp conditions, clean any contamination from the socket. Leaving dirt in the 6-point profile reduces grip and can damage the bolt the next time it is used.
Regularly check the condition of the internal profile edges. Rounded or chipped edges are a sign that the socket needs replacing. A worn tool can damage the fastener and make it harder to remove later.
