HSS TiN Step Drill Bits 4–32 mm — 3-Piece Set Kraft&Dele KD11247
A set of three step drill bits (cone drills) designed for drilling holes of adjustable diameter with a single tool. The bits are made from HSS high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, which increases the hardness of the working surface and extends tool life. The set comprises three bits with different diameter ranges, supplied in a protective case.
Features of the bits
HSS steel with TiN coating
HSS (high-speed steel) is a steel grade that withstands the high temperatures generated during drilling. The titanium nitride (TiN) coating increases surface hardness to approx. 80 HRC, reduces friction and slows wear of the cutting edges — particularly important when drilling metal.
Stepped design
The conical shape of the bit makes it possible to produce different hole diameters without changing tools — simply by controlling the drilling depth. Each step is clearly marked with a number, so the current diameter can be read precisely while working.
Compatibility with drill drivers and drills
The bits have a triangular or hexagonal (hex) shank that prevents them from slipping in the drill driver chuck. They fit the standard 1/4" chucks used on cordless drill drivers as well as standard drill chucks.
Protective case
The set is supplied in a hard case that protects the cutting edges from damage during storage and transport. The case also provides convenient storage for all three bits in one place.

How do I choose the right bit from the set?
For holes up to 12 mm, the first bit (4–12 mm) is sufficient. The second bit (4–20 mm) covers the typical diameters used in electrical and plumbing installations. The third bit (4–32 mm) is intended for the largest holes, e.g. for M25/M32 cable glands or industrial connectors. When drilling metal, low speeds are recommended, together with cooling of the cutting edge using oil or a cutting emulsion.
Use and maintenance
HSS step drill bits are designed for use with drills and drill drivers featuring variable speed control. When drilling steel and non-ferrous metals, it is advisable to set a low speed (300–800 RPM) and use a cooling lubricant, which limits heating of the cutting edge and extends tool life. When drilling wood and plastics, higher speeds can be used without cooling.
After use, the bits should be cleaned of swarf and stored in the supplied case. The TiN coating is resistant to abrasion, but contact with abrasive materials (e.g. concrete, ceramic) may damage it — HSS step drill bits are not intended for drilling concrete or masonry.
