CO2 Head Gasket Leak Tester GEKO G02661

A diagnostic kit for detecting carbon dioxide in the engine cooling system. It identifies head gasket failure, cracks in the cylinder block or cylinder head warping without having to dismantle any components.

Detection methodChemical CO2
Adapter typeV-shaped cone
ApplicationsUniversal
ModelG02661

Tester features

Diagnostics without dismantling

The tester detects seal failure without having to strip the engine. Testing is carried out through the radiator filler neck or the expansion tank, which significantly shortens diagnostic time and eliminates the risk of damaging components during dismantling.

CO2 detection in the coolant

The method is based on detecting carbon dioxide, which enters the cooling system when the head gasket fails. CO2 is produced during fuel combustion and should not be present in the coolant of a correctly running engine.

Universal cone adapter

The V-shaped cone fits radiator filler necks and expansion tanks of various diameters. This eliminates the need for multiple adapters and allows work on most cars and vans.

Fast interpretation of the result

The test fluid changes colour within a few minutes of starting the test. The clear chemical reaction allows an unambiguous assessment of the seal's condition without additional measuring equipment.

Where the tester is used

  • Diagnosing cylinder head gasket failure
  • Detecting cracks in the engine block
  • Identifying cylinder head warping
  • Leak checking after an engine repair
  • Diagnosing the causes of engine overheating
  • Pre-purchase inspection of a used vehicle
  • Condition checks in the workshop
  • Preliminary diagnosis before removing the head

How it works and how to use it

The tester uses a chemical reaction between carbon dioxide and a special indicator fluid. While a damaged engine is running, exhaust gases pass through the leaks into the cooling system. The tester adapter is placed in the radiator filler neck or the expansion tank, and the engine is then started for a few minutes.

Vapours from the cooling system pass through the chamber containing the test fluid. If the vapours contain CO2 from the exhaust gases, the fluid changes colour – usually from blue to yellow or green. No colour change means the seal between the combustion system and the cooling system is sound.

Interpreting the results

The intensity and speed of the colour change indicate the extent of the damage. A rapid colour change within the first 1-2 minutes suggests serious gasket damage or a significant crack. A slow change may indicate an early stage of failure or a minor leak.

Limitations of the method

The tester does not indicate the exact location or size of the damage. It only confirms the presence of exhaust gases in the cooling system. After a positive test result, further diagnostics are required – often involving removing the head – to determine the scope of the repair.
