YATO YT-7223 200 mm Feeler Gauge – Precision Measuring Tool

A feeler gauge is a set of calibrated steel blades used to measure narrow gaps and clearances between components. The YT-7223 contains 14 blades with thicknesses from 0.05 to 0.5 mm, made from hardened spring steel.

Technical features of the feeler gauge

Measuring range 0.05-0.5 mm

14 blades of varying thicknesses allow precise measurement of gaps from 0.05 mm (50 microns) to 0.5 mm. This covers the typical clearances found in mechanical systems, spark plug electrodes, engine valves and electrical contacts.

200 mm blade length

The extended blade design provides access to deeply recessed gaps and allows measurement in hard-to-reach places. The 12.4 mm width ensures stability during measurement and makes it easier to read the value.

Hardened spring steel

The material offers high resistance to bending and permanent deformation. Surface hardening increases resistance to wear, ensuring lasting measurement accuracy even under intensive use.

Set of 14 calibrated blades

Each blade is marked with an engraved thickness value. The blades are joined in a folding set, which makes storage easier and allows quick selection of the right thickness during work.

Applications of the feeler gauge

  • Setting valve clearance in combustion engines – checking and adjusting the gap between the tappet and the valve stem
  • Measuring spark plug electrode gaps – checking and setting the gap to the vehicle manufacturer's specification
  • Checking thrust bearing clearance – checking axial movement of shafts in gearboxes and engines
  • Setting the gap in ignition contact breaker points – in older ignition systems
  • Measuring gaps between the contacts of relays and electrical contactors
  • Checking clearances in brake systems – checking gaps between the components of the brake mechanism
  • Verifying assembly clearances in precision mechanical systems
  • Measuring the thickness of paint and electroplated coatings on metal substrates

How to use a feeler gauge correctly

A blade of the correct thickness should slide through the gap with slight resistance. If it passes too freely, the gap is too large – a thicker blade should be used. If it cannot be inserted, the gap is too small. Measurement is carried out by trying successive thicknesses or combining several blades to obtain the exact value.

Maintenance and use

After use, the blades should be cleaned of dirt and oil, then protected with a thin layer of anti-corrosion agent. Storing them in a dry place prevents corrosion, which can affect measurement accuracy. Avoid bending the blades at a sharp angle or using them as a lever – this can cause permanent deformation and loss of calibration.

It is worth checking the condition of the measuring edges regularly. Visible burrs, dents or traces of corrosion make the tool unsuitable for precision measurement. In workshop conditions, the feeler gauge retains its accuracy for several years of intensive use, provided basic maintenance rules are followed.
