Twist drill bit made from HSS 4241 high-speed steel with a 135° split point, designed for drilling holes in steel, stainless steel, cast iron and other metals. Compliance with the DIN 338 standard ensures accurate hole dimensions.
An alloy containing tungsten, molybdenum and vanadium that retains its hardness at temperatures of up to 600°C. The 4241 designation indicates a content of 4% chromium, 2% vanadium, 4% molybdenum and 1% tungsten. As a result, the drill bit keeps its cutting edges sharp during intensive work in hard metals.
The split point design with a self-centring tip eliminates the need for centre punching before drilling. The 135° angle reduces the pressure required to start drilling and prevents the drill bit from slipping across the metal surface, particularly on rounded or angled components.
Grinding to the DIN 338 standard guarantees a diameter tolerance of h8, which translates into dimensional accuracy of the holes. The precision-ground shank (a turned cylindrical surface on the shank) ensures a secure fit in the drill chuck and eliminates slipping when torque is transmitted.
The additional cutting edge increases the efficiency of material removal and reduces the thermal load on the point. The polished surface of the flutes reduces the coefficient of friction, which helps to clear swarf from the hole and prevents it from jamming when drilling deep holes.

For structural steel, the recommended rotational speed is 250-350 rpm when drilling dry, or 400-500 rpm with emulsion cooling. For stainless steel, reduce the speed to 150-250 rpm and use ample cooling. The feed rate should be 0.1-0.2 mm/rev depending on the hardness of the material.
The drill bit fits standard jaw drill chucks with a capacity of 1.5-13 mm as well as keyless chucks. The precision-ground shank ensures coaxial alignment with the drill's axis of rotation, which eliminates radial run-out during operation. It also performs well in hammer drills with the hammer action switched off.
After intensive use, the drill bit can be sharpened on a bench grinder with a corundum wheel, maintaining the 135° point angle and the symmetry of the cutting edges. Swarf lodged in the flutes should be removed regularly with a wire brush. Storing the bit in a dry place prevents corrosion of the working surface.
