A round file with a single #1 cut, intended for working metal, removing burrs and shaping curved surfaces. The 200 mm working length provides good reach while maintaining precision.
The cylindrical shape allows work on holes and internal cylindrical surfaces, as well as smoothing radii. The file diameter is suited to typical fitting and mechanical work.
The #1 designation indicates a coarse cut that removes material quickly. A single cut forms parallel grooves set at an angle, which works well on soft metals and when removing larger amounts of stock.
A standard length offering a balance between reach and control of the tool. Sufficient for most workshop tasks while still allowing the file to be guided precisely.
A design combining a hard core with elastomer layers ensures a secure grip even during prolonged use. The ergonomic shape reduces hand fatigue and improves control of the tool.

A single cut consists of parallel grooves set at an angle of 55–65 degrees to the axis of the file. The #1 designation defines the coarseness grade – in this case a coarse cut, intended for fast material removal.
Files with a #1 cut are suitable for roughing work, where the priority is fast removal of material stock rather than surface finish. They are used on soft metals (aluminium, copper, brass) and for removing larger amounts of material from structural steel.
To finish a surface and achieve a smoother result, files with a finer cut (#2 or #3) are recommended as a second stage of work.
A round file requires the correct technique to remain effective. The stroke should be forwards only – the return stroke serves solely to reposition the tool. Pressure applied during filing should be even and matched to the hardness of the material being worked.
Regular cleaning of the cut with a wire brush removes metal swarf, which can clog the grooves and reduce cutting efficiency. The file should be stored in a way that prevents contact with other metal tools, which protects the cut from damage. Avoiding contact with moisture prevents corrosion.
