The M4 thread means an outside diameter of 4 mm and a thread pitch of 0.7 mm in accordance with the ISO standard. It is compatible with standard M4 bolts and screws available on the market. It allows the bolt to be screwed in and out repeatedly without damaging the thread.
Knurled cylindrical flange

Installation and use
Required tool
Installing M4 rivet nuts requires a rivet nut tool (manual or pneumatic) with a suitable M4 threaded nosepiece. A hand tool is sufficient for occasional work, whereas a pneumatic tool is recommended where a larger number of fixings is involved.
Hole preparation
Before installation, drill a hole of the diameter recommended by the rivet nut manufacturer (typically 6-6.5 mm for M4). The hole diameter must be precise - too small a hole will prevent installation, while too large a hole will weaken the joint. The edges of the hole should be free from burrs.
Selecting the material thickness
M4 rivet nuts are available in various body lengths to suit the thickness of the materials being joined. Before buying, check the material thickness range for which the rivet nut in question is intended. A body that is too short will not provide adequate strength, while one that is too long may not fit in the available space.
