Shank-mounted flap wheel for working metal, wood and plastics, fitted in drills and die grinders. The construction of abrasive cloth flaps on a metal shank ensures even sanding and a long tool life.
Features of the Shank-Mounted Flap Wheel
Flap construction on a shank
Abrasive cloth flaps arranged radially around a metal shank give access to hard-to-reach areas and allow sanding of irregularly shaped surfaces. The flexible construction adapts to the material being worked, ensuring even contact across the whole working surface.
P60 grit for initial sanding
The P60 grade (medium grit) is intended for removing larger imperfections, rust, burrs and old coatings. It allows fast material removal while keeping the sanding process under control. It is used before finishing the surface with fine grits.
Working dimensions 80x30 mm
An 80 mm diameter and 30 mm width provide a working surface large enough to sand larger areas efficiently. The compact dimensions allow work in confined spaces where larger discs cannot be used.
6 mm shank for drills and grinders

Selecting the rotational speed
The recommended speed for 80 mm flap wheels is 6,000–10,000 rpm. Too low a speed reduces sanding efficiency, while too high a speed can overheat the material and wear the flap wheel out prematurely. Check the maximum peripheral speed specified by the manufacturer.
Use and Maintenance
Before starting work, check that the flap wheel is correctly secured in the tool chuck and make sure the shank is fully inserted. Apply appropriate pressure when sanding – excessive pressure wears the flaps more quickly and can overheat the material.
The shank-mounted flap wheel works most efficiently at an angle of 15–30 degrees to the surface being worked. Guide the tool evenly and avoid prolonged sanding in one place, which can cause local overheating or unevenness.
Personal protective equipment must be worn during work: safety glasses protect against material fragments, a dust mask protects the airways, and work gloves prevent injuries. The room should be adequately ventilated, particularly when sanding materials that give off dust.
Storing the flap wheel in a dry place, away from moisture and direct contact with other tools, extends its life. Moisture can weaken the bond between the abrasive cloth flaps and the shank, causing them to come off prematurely during work.
