YG6X tungsten carbide tip
YG6X tungsten carbide has a hardness of 91-92 HRA and is resistant to abrasion, which makes it possible to scribe glass, ceramics and steel. The YG6X designation indicates a grade containing 6% cobalt, which provides a balance between hardness and resistance to brittle fracture.
Metal body construction
A 140 mm metal rod provides rigidity when the tip is pressed against the material. The construction eliminates flexing that could lead to irregular scribed lines. The length of the tool allows lines to be drawn using a steel rule or template.
Versatile applications
The scriber is suitable for working with materials of varying hardness: soda-lime and toughened glass, glazed ceramic, porcelain tiles, and non-alloy and alloy steel. It can be used to mark cutting lines and drilling points, and to engrave markings.

Use and maintenance
Scribing technique
During use, hold the scriber at an angle of 15-30 degrees to the surface and apply even pressure. The scribed line should be made in a single continuous movement without stopping. On glass, one pass with moderate pressure is sufficient; on ceramics and metal, several passes may be necessary.
Personal protective equipment
Working with the scriber requires the use of safety goggles because of the risk of material splinters, particularly when scribing glass and ceramics. Work gloves protect the hands from sharp material edges and provide a better grip on the tool.
Tip maintenance
The tungsten carbide tip does not require sharpening, but it should be protected from impacts that could cause chipping. After use, it is advisable to clean the tip of any material residue with a brush or cloth. Storing it in a case prevents mechanical damage.
