Shank-Mounted Flap Wheel 60x30x6 mm P60 GEKO G78751

A shank-mounted flap wheel intended for abrasive work with drills, cordless drill/drivers and die grinders. The flap construction flexes to follow the contours of the workpiece.

Technical characteristics

Aluminium oxide abrasive

Aluminium oxide is a general-purpose abrasive suitable for working wood, metals and plastics. It offers good wear resistance and keeps its grain stable in use.

P60 grit

A P60 grit is a medium grade — it removes material faster than finer grades, leaving a surface that still needs smoothing with a higher grit (P80-P120).

Flap construction

Abrasive-coated cotton fibre flaps give the tool flexibility, so it can be used on uneven surfaces and in hard-to-reach areas without the risk of damaging the workpiece.

6 mm shank

A universal shank diameter that fits the standard chucks of drills, cordless drill/drivers and die grinders. The flaps are permanently fixed to the shank, so there is no risk of them working loose in use.

Applications

  • Sanding hard and soft wood — removing unevenness and machining marks
  • Working non-ferrous metals and steel — cleaning and matting down surfaces
  • Sanding plastic components
  • Removing rust and old paint coatings
  • Preparing surfaces for painting or lacquering
  • Working edges, radii and hard-to-reach areas
  • Sanding convex and concave surfaces

Use and maintenance

Choosing the drive tool

The flap wheel can be fitted in drills, cordless drill/drivers with a bit holder and die grinders. Recommended operating speed: 3,000–8,000 rpm depending on the material being worked. Use lower speeds on plastics (to avoid overheating) and higher speeds on metals.

Working technique

Apply moderate pressure when sanding — pressing too hard shortens the life of the wheel and can overheat the workpiece. Move the wheel with a steady motion, avoiding prolonged dwell in one spot. On wood, work along the direction of the grain.

Wear and replacement

Replace the wheel when the flaps have become noticeably shorter or when the abrasive grain is spent (the flap surfaces look smooth and glazed). A worn wheel loses its cutting efficiency and needs more pressure, which makes the work less comfortable.
